Water Electrolysis

Water electrolysis linked by sustainable electricity is a promising technology to change water into green H2 and O2 gases. Water splitting is an endothermic process and requires an energy input of ΔG=237.1 kJ mol-1 under standard conditions (25oC, 1 atm). The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) take place at the cathode and anode, respectively, and they are preferably separated by a membrane. Each electrode needs high performance electrocatalyst to diminish the overpotential.
